SPAS III

Under contract to MDA, SDL developed the SPAS III sensor. SPAS III was to be a telescoped, infrared imager featuring two complex focal plane arrays, a 256 x 256 InSb detector operating in the SWIR and MWIR, and a 128 x 128 HgCdTe detector operating in the LWIR. The focal plane arrays were to be cooled by a mechanical cryocooler. SDL's effort included development of an infrared spectrometer and redesign of the focal plane array. The program was cancelled at Government convenience.
