Cyber Scenario Modeling And Reporting Tool
CyberSMART is software tool for use in cyber incident preparedness exercises. CyberSMART provides the cyber exercise community with a web-based tool for gathering data from numerous sources and for effectively using that data to plan complex functional and tabletop exercises. The tool was developed specifically to address the difficulties experienced by exercise planners in national cyber exercises including Livewire in 2003 and CyberStorm in 2006. The goal of the program was to create a methodology and associated software tool to simplify and organize the complex process of cyber exercise development.

The CyberSMART software was developed by a team headed by SDL that included researchers from the Norwich University Applied Research Institutes (NUARI), Dartmouth College, and Delta Risk. This work was supported by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate, in partnership with the National Cyber Security Division.
The research team is currently designing an exercise execution engine that is compatible with CyberSMART and takes into account the future development path of DHS’s National Exercise Master Scenario Event List (NxMSEL), an automated system for MSEL management.
