Small Satellites
Having designed and built several microsatellites, SDL/USU is developing a
new family of microspacecraft systems and components for AFRL and NASA. Additionally,
SDL has conducted numerous feasibility studies for customers such as AFRL and
MDA including efforts to:
- Research microsatellite‐based distributed sensing missions
- Determine the costs associated with developing and manufacturing 100 small
servicing satellites
- Survey the current state‐of‐the‐art in non‐developmental electro‐optic
sensors capable of being hosted on a microsatellite
- Develop an autonomous microsatellite that can perform on‐orbit missions
- Design pallet‐based and platform‐based small satellites to enable rapid
deployment of a variety of payload types
Through the Annual AIAA/USU Conference on Small Satellites, held at USU each
August, SDL has received international recognition for its accomplishments in
small satellite research. During the Conference, SDL hosts a number of related
events including a networking social and facility tours.
