NEAT
NITF Exploration and Analysis Tool

Developed by Pranab Banerjee of the Space Dynamics Laboratory, NEAT (NITF Exploration and Analysis Tool), is an easy to use GUI-based tool to view and explore NITF 2.1 (MIL STD 2500B) compliant files. Version 1.1 has the following features:

  • A flexible and powerful commandline interface
  • Interactive OpenGL accelerated image viewer (zoom, rotate, filter, etc.)
  • Ability to save images in various formats
  • Works under Python 2.2 and 2.3
  • Ability to view all header information–main header, image subheader(s), graphic subheader(s), text subheader(s)
  • Ability to view CMETA TRE (Tagged Record Extension) for SAR data
  • 1 bit monochrome, 8 and 24 bit uncompressed image viewing
  • 8 and 12 bit JPEG compressed image viewing
  • Blocked imagery (uncompressed or JPEG compressed) viewing
  • Multi-band image (uncompressed or JPEG compressed bands) viewing
  • Experimental CGM viewing (through the open source GPLOT package)
  • Works as a web browser helper application

Developed under Linux using Python, NEAT has been tested to run under Mandrake 9.0, 9.1, 10.0, and Simply MEPIS 2004 Linux distributions.

External Dependencies:

  • Python 2.2 or 2.3
  • wxPython for the GUI
  • vtk (through its Python wrapper) including wxVTKRenderWindow support
  • Open source "netpbm" package (included in almost every Linux distribution) for image format conversion
  • gv PostScript viewer
