Tomorrow Ph.D. Fellowships

The Utah State University (USU) Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is pleased to offer Tomorrow Ph.D. Fellowships to support research related to SDL’s strategic science and technology interests. It is open to students in the colleges of engineering, science, natural resources and agriculture. Each fellowship carries either an annual stipend of $30,000 and is renewable for up to three years or an annual stipend of $25,000 for up to four years. The type of fellowship is determined by qualifications and negotiation with supervising professor and the student’s department. For the 2008-2009 academic year, SDL expects to award two or three Tomorrow Fellowships. There is no application deadline; however, it is recommended that your application be submitted before March. After that date, fellowships will begin to be evaluated and awarded. Once available fellowships have been awarded, no further applications will be considered for the coming academic year.

Tomorrow Fellows are competitively selected based upon applicants’ scholastic achievements and potential contributions to the key research thrusts listed below. To apply for a Fellowship, the applicants must:

  • Be U.S. citizens
  • Be admitted to the USU graduate school
  • Have a faculty member who is willing to take on the applicant and his/her research
  • Have a commendable scholastic record

  • Calibration of Sensor Systems
  • Science related to the Atmosphere, Space or the Environment
  • Small Spacecraft
  • Data Exploitation, Visualization, and Fusion
  • Environmental Science, Engineering and Monitoring

Application Procedure

  1. Apply to USU graduate school and the department of your choice.
  2. Complete and submit a Tomorrow Fellowship application, which should include:
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Undergraduate and graduate transcripts
    • At least one letter of recommendation from the sponsoring faculty member specifically focused on why you should be selected for the Tomorrow Fellowship supporting their research
    • Other letters of recommendation, if desired
  3. Send completed application, transcripts, and vita by mail or email to the address below. Letters of support should also be sent to the address below.
